A Myrtle Beach police officer was named Officer of the Year for his community work — he said he feels blessed to serve local residents.

The Lowcountry Food Bank announced Monday that it received a grant from The Boeing Company to improve food security for rural communities; the grant will let the organization buy over 110,000 pounds of locally produced nutritious food and support child feeding programs at more than 12 School Markets—helping children, seniors, and veterans access healthy meals.

Matthew Halliday, a 4-year-old local boy, drowned in a community pool at Cape Landing on May 8 — he died at Grand Strand Medical Center around 9 p.m. two days later while police continue to investigate the incident.
