- ➤ A Myrtle Beach police officer was named Officer of the Year for his community work — he said he feels blessed to serve local residents. WMBF News
- ➤ The Lowcountry Food Bank announced Monday that it received a grant from The Boeing Company to improve food security for rural communities; the grant will let the organization buy over 110,000 pounds of locally produced nutritious food and support child feeding programs at more than 12 School Markets—helping children, seniors, and veterans access healthy meals. - ➤ Matthew Halliday, a 4-year-old local boy, drowned in a community pool at Cape Landing on May 8 — he died at Grand Strand Medical Center around 9 p.m. two days later while police continue to investigate the incident. The Post and Courier

- ➤ Carolina Country Music Fest will reveal its daily line-up and release a limited number of extra tickets on Monday at 10 a.m.—tickets sold out in April. The festival will take place June 5—8 at the Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion Place in Myrtle Beach. WMBF News

- ➤ GasBuddy's survey of 3,028 stations shows gas in South Carolina dropped 7.1 cents per gallon in the past week to about $2.66 even as oil prices jumped over $4 per barrel—marking a decline of 6.3 cents from a month ago and 50.9 cents from a year ago. WPDE

- ➤ On Monday, State Treasurer Curtis Loftis announced the return of the PalmettoBaby Grant Program in celebration of National 529 Day, which gives South Carolina parents $529 college savings grants and a Future Scholar goody bag for babies born on May 29. Parents must open a Future Scholar account and apply by Sept. 2 to get the grant. WPDE
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Tidelands Health marked 75 years of serving the region on Monday, May 12th by celebrating its legacy and offering scholarships to local high school seniors interested in health care. The non-profit system began as a small hospital on May 11th, 1950 and now operates four hospitals — over 70 outpatient locations that serve Myrtle Beach and nearby communities. WPDE
