Horry County is moving closer to breaking ground on a new rural civic center (designed to host rodeos, livestock shows, concerts, and county fairs) as planning advances, and construction could begin soon.

Pinnacle Bank donated $50,000 to support the Myrtle Beach Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Wednesday, adding funds to help maintain the tribute for local veterans.

City officials said the contribution will aid upkeep and community events.

During a family vacation, Derrick Moore entered the ocean to rescue a young girl caught in a Myrtle Beach rip current; he got her to safety but was pulled under by the current and his body was recovered the next morning.

Horry County’s Stormwater Division is installing culverts under roads to reduce flooding (especially in vulnerable areas) and improve public safety for local residents.

The project is part of ongoing government efforts to manage stormwater in affected communities.

In Q2 2026, the Myrtle Beach single-family market saw 522 new listings and 319 closed deals as median prices fell to $525,000, while the Carolina Forest market posted 667 new listings and 459 closed deals with median prices rising to $471,000.
