- ➤ United Way of Horry County launched a community needs survey for residents, businesses, and community partners to share input on local priorities. The anonymous survey closes on April 30 and will shape new programs, partnerships—and funding priorities later in the year. WPDE
- ➤ Drippy’s Ice Cream in Surfside Beach is celebrating April as Girl Scout Cookie Month by creating new homemade ice cream flavors — the shop uses popular cookie flavors like Thin Mint, Peanut Butter Pattie, and Samoa to support local Girl Scout troops. The flavors are available all month. WPDE
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ David McLellan, 88, died Wednesday after a fire broke out Monday on Offshore Drive in Murrells Inlet+ his death was caused by smoke-related injuries. WFXB Fox TV

- ➤ Shawn Davis’s social media posts have prompted Myrtle Beach police to reopen his father Jim Davis’s murder case, in which Jim was shot at the Old Pantry gas station on Oct. 23, 2003—authorities are now reviewing tips from the public. WPDE
- ➤ A man is facing charges after police reported a gun was found at Loris Elementary School in Horry County; authorities are investigating the incident. WMBF News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Myrtle Beach International Film Festival will celebrate 20 years at Market Common, featuring 54 films from around the world and kicking off with its first screening at 4:00 p.m. on April 22—organizers expect the event to offer world-class cinema and local food as evening brings a stunning beach sunset. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The state board of education voted to let a Horry County principal keep her educator certificate despite her prior criminal investigation—officials said the decision followed a full review of her case. WMBF News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The South Carolina Forestry Commission lifted Horry County’s burn ban at noon on Wednesday due to improved weather—residents must follow local and state burning laws and contact the commission before burning. The ban was put in place late last month because of low humidity and gusty winds before the Covington Drive Wildfire ignited in Carolina Forest. WFXB Fox TV
