  • Nine months after the Carolina Forest wildfire began on March 1, a new Horry County report showed that neighborhoods with only one entry point and a radio shortage slowed evacuations. County officials plan to conduct training exercises and enhance community outreach to improve future wildfire response.  The Post and Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • The South Carolina Department of Public Health reported nine new measles cases since Friday that bring the total to 156, with most patients unvaccinated and 249 people under quarantine. Health officials say anyone exposed should contact a healthcare provider promptly and stress that vaccination is key to halting the outbreak.  WPDE
  • Enhanced ACA subsidies will end on Dec.31, which may double insurance costs for many families who depend on the federal marketplace. Consumers are urged to review their plan choices as open enrollment continues & legislators debate future aid.  WPDE
  • On Tuesday, Dec. 23, three cases of Salmonella linked to raw oysters were reported in South Carolina as the CDC investigates an outbreak that has affected 64 people — local officials advise cooking oysters thoroughly to reduce the risk of food poisoning.  WPDE
