- ➤ Concrete manufacturer Coastal Ready Mix will invest $4.6 million in a new ready-mix plant on Mount Pisgah Cemetery Road in Conway set to begin operating in 2026 + create 19 new jobs. WPDE
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Myrtle Beach will break ground for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7 at Warbird Park (150 Farrow Parkway) with seating, refreshments and parking available; the future memorial includes statues, plaques and a reflecting pool and is expected to finish by late spring. - ➤ The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved Governor McMaster’s request to bar SNAP benefits for candy, soda, and energy drinks starting August 2026. SNAP retailers must update their point-of-sale systems to support real-time transactions and adjust eligible product listings. WPDE
- ➤ North Myrtle Beach has begun a $72 million beach renourishment project to rebuild and safeguard its shores + the phased work is set to boost local tourism and coastal resilience. WPDE
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Grand Strand Health broke ground on the new Rivertown Emergency Room at 1720 Church Street in Conway on Dec. 11. The $17 million, 10,000 sqft facility will open in Sept. 2026 with modern exam rooms and advanced imaging plus create 60-70 new jobs and offer 24/7 service. My Horry News
- ➤ Grand Strand Health broke ground on the Rivertown ER in Conway; the emergency facility will span over 10,000+ sqft and open next fall. WPDE
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ More than 600 runners joined the 7th annual Under the Lights 5K (downtown Conway) on Wednesday night, uniting community members for a spirited run/walk. WPDE
- ➤ Kennesaw State and Western Michigan will compete on Dec. 19 at Brooks Stadium during the Myrtle Beach Bowl Presented by Engine, and a pep rally will take place on Dec. 18 (2-5 p.m.) at The Hangout at Broadway.
