COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Wednesday, several South Carolina National Guard members returned home and were greeted by family and friends at Myrtle Beach Airport.  WPDE
  • Surfside Beach is preparing for its annual holiday parade on Melody Lane that will feature prizes for creatively decorated floats. The event promises a festive day for families to enjoy local traditions.  WPDE
  • Kind Keeper Animal Rescue hosts a Winter Food Truck and Market Fair on Dec. 7 behind Dunkin Donuts and CVS, offering food, gifts, animals, crafts and $10 family or pet photos. Then on Dec. 13, attend event at Dirty Armadillo (2551 US-17, Little River) with music, drinks and auction baskets to help the shelter.  WFXB Fox TV
  • Ground Zero hosted its 8th Annual Indoor Snowball Fight last night, attracting about 300 middle and high school students to a winter wonderland created with Hallmark Studio snow, fire pits, s'mores + a live DJ, while local officials including the Fire Department and Mayor-Elect Mark Kruea joined the fun.  WPDE
  • Local animal shelters launch 25 Days of Pawmas this December to spotlight adoptable pets—organizers want residents to consider giving these furry friends a new home.  WPDE

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local musician Marcus Cannon will perform at Hot Fish Club in Murrells Inlet on Dec. 6 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Cannon, who studied guitar at Coastal Carolina University after moving here in 2015, continues to energize the Grand Strand’s music scene.  The Post and Courier
  • Christmas events dot the Grand Strand and Pee Dee as Myrtle Beach hosts Winter Wonderland at the Beach until Jan. 4 and nearby communities schedule parades, tree lightings, and festive markets from Dec. 2 to Dec. 18.   • Actor, writer and comedian Paul Reiser, known as a Stranger Things star, will perform next year at Greg Rowles Legacy Theatre, adding a fresh live entertainment event to the lineup. Additional details on the schedule will be announced soon.  WPDE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Two juvenile bottlenose dolphins were found dead last week off North Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head Island; one had pneumonia and severe parasite loads while experts from the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network said the cases are not linked & not cause for alarm.  The Post and Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Horry County partners with local groups on a five-phase streetscape project to reduce flooding and improve Garden City's infrastructure. Phase one covers Waccamaw Drive and Atlantic Avenue and consultants will contact affected homeowners for easement details.  WMBF News

  • Conway will host the state Special Olympics at the Billy Gardner Sports Complex from Oct. 30-Nov. 1 next year. The city expects thousands of athletes, families, volunteers and fans to join the event.  WFXB Fox TV
