COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The city of Myrtle Beach will kick off the holiday season with the 5th annual Winter Wonderland at the Boardwalk — featuring festive lights and live entertainment for local visitors.  WPDE
  • The Beacon of Light Institute for Veterans will host its second free food and toiletries giveaway to support local veterans. The event is scheduled for a future date and will distribute essential supplies — more details on timing and location are expected soon —.  WPDE
  • Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach received a surge in donations as over 1,110 families were served in October during the busy holiday season. The organization will hold at least 27 Thanksgiving food drives and will save extra food for Christmas distributions—showing community care—.  WMBF News
  • Residents at Summer Crest Apartments in Litter River have reported dangerous conditions with flooding, mold, and structural issues—Jennifer Lynn said the building has flooded multiple times and repairs have only been temporary. She has filed reports since 2017 and fears the building might collapse, affecting residents' health and safety.  WMBF News
  • Barefoot Landing will hold its annual Lighting of the Landing ceremony at Dockside Village on Saturday at 6 p.m. Music from the South’s Grandest Christmas Show at Alabama Theatre — local entertainment groups will perform while Santa makes an appearance, and the tree lighting will be followed by fireworks immediately after.  WFXB Fox TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A North Carolina couple wants to open a retro arcade on South Ocean Boulevard but faces zoning issues because current regulations do not allow arcades in the mixed-use area. City officials said a zoning rewrite will take about six months — the couple is exploring other locations while aiming to open in spring for the summer season.  The Post and Courier

  • The Myrtle Beach Car Club raised over $7,000 via GoFundMe after its new trailer—with more than $4,000 in equipment inside—was stolen just seven hours after delivery from Guardian Wraps and Graphics, and the club is now working on a replacement trailer while adding extra measures to prevent future thefts.  WMBF News

  • Scotty's Beach Bar in Surfside Beach was named a legendary dive bar by Southern Living Magazine and ranked among the top 25 in the South. The bar—located at 111 S.   • Twilight Surf Hotel in Myrtle Beach has been declared a nuisance under South Carolina law—officials will review the designation and plan any next steps.  WPDE
  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began equipment mobilization off the North Strand last weekend as part of the $72 million Grand Strand beach renourishment project—efforts that will dredge about two million cubic yards of sand to reduce risks behind the dunes. Equipment staging areas at the end of Sea Mountain Highway and on 18th Avenue South will support work that starts on Dec. 15 along the north end of the Strand, while the nearby public parking lot closes from Dec. 1 through mid-January.  My Horry News
  • The Myrtle Beach Chamber is taking local concerns about child care deserts to lawmakers in Columbia and Washington, D.C. to help open more affordable centers for working families. A recent study showed only 29% of children attend brick-and-mortar centers, and the chamber set up a resident advisory task force +to guide its advocacy+.  WPDE
  • Horry County officials approved plans to build a new emergency room on Forestbrook Road after rezoning nearly eight acres for the project. The center is part of a partnership between Tidelands Health and Intuitive Health that will design three integrated emergency and urgent care sites — one on Forestbrook Road and additional ones in Myrtle Beach and Conway — and will operate 24/7.  WFXB Fox TV
