COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Nearly 200 people attended a Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11 at Memorial Park in Surfside Beach to honor veterans, where local Navy veteran Eugene A. 'Chip' Woodlief Jr. and Mayor Robert Krouse spoke about service and sacrifice. Community members and officials joined to salute veterans and remember their contributions—an event that brought the town together in strong patriotism.  My Horry News
  • The Rock Church’s Aynor campus opened a new, fully renovated 6,000-square-foot student venue—located at 513 8th Ave.—that now hosts ministry events for students from first grade through high school. A ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 5—attended by local leaders—marked the launch as Pastor Scott Johnson said the space will help students lead, serve and share their faith.  My Horry News
  • North Myrtle Beach High School will host the Holiday Market for Christmas Angels in its cafeteria on Nov. 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. — many vendors will sell crafts, decorations, food, and gifts while raffles will be held throughout the day.  WFXB Fox TV
  • Winslow Law is hosting a Friendsgiving event benefiting Carolina Human Reinvestment at 11019 Ocean Hwy in Pawleys Island on Friday Nov. 14 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.—the firm will supply the main dishes, drinks and essentials—and community members are asked to bring a side or dessert with a donation to support Thanksgiving meals for 50 local families in need.  WFXB Fox TV
  • Pet owners are invited to join the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach’s inaugural Sniffari on the Strand event this Saturday from 9-11 a.m.+ the one-mile beach walk starts at The Horseshoe, where dogs will explore sniff stations designed for enrichment. CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Willie Weeks returns to the Pawleys Island Tavern for a solo show from 7-11 p.m.—he will later join Thursday’s Dead for a Grateful Dead tribute at Foster’s Café and Bar in Myrtle Beach on November 15 at 8 p.m.  The Post and Courier
  • Broadway at the Beach is hosting its annual tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, November 15th with a show starting at 6 p.m. and fireworks at 8 p.m.—live entertainment and special guests will be part of the event.  WFXB Fox TV
  • Coastal Youth Ballet Theater celebrates its 20th year of presenting The Nutcracker — a holiday tradition — with performances scheduled every weekend from Nov. 28 through Dec. 14 at the Theatre of the Republic on Main Street in Conway. Proceeds will support dancer scholarships and travel funds.  WPDE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Scholars Academy principal Norman McQueen said the school, rated best in South Carolina with a score of 99.7, proved its top ranking was no fluke—he credited the program’s dedicated teachers and self-motivated students for the honor. The program, held at Coastal Carolina, has seen its graduates go on to study at top universities such as MIT and Yale.  My Horry News
  • Horry-Georgetown Technical College celebrated the opening of its expanded pantry on the Grand Strand Campus—launching its annual 'Chomp-Out Hunger' food drive challenge that runs through Dec. 12. The challenge asks students, faculty, and community members to donate food, personal care products, or household essentials so no student or employee faces hunger alone.  WPDE
  • HGTC held its Symbolic Walk for Veterans on November 11th at its Conway, Grand Strand, and Georgetown campuses to honor veteran students and the broader veteran community—participants received a light breakfast and a complimentary beverage at the Barnes & Noble College Grounds Café at 11 a.m.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The MB Fire Department will host the grand opening of new Station 3 on Saturday, November 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Myrtle Beach so locals can tour the state-of-the-art facility, enjoy a free lunch, and view fire vehicles—there will also be a booth at the Dickens Show to raise funds for Shop With a Hero.  WFXB Fox TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • McLeod Health Loris celebrated its 75th anniversary on November 11 with staff, officials and local residents attending a short ceremony — the hospital was honored with a proclamation from the Loris City Council and a special art piece was unveiled.  My Horry News
  • Genesis Healthcare donated $45,000 to Harvest Hope Food Bank on Wednesday morning to help families affected by the SNAP pause that began November 1—this donation will expand food distribution and secure essential items for those in need.  WPDE
