- ➤ Ducky, a lively mixed breed from the NMB Humane Society who appeared with Meaghan Pitman in the studio, is available for adoption via phone or the website; the organization also invites local dog lovers to join a one-mile beach walk event—Sniffari on the Strand—at The Horseshoe on November 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. WFXB Fox TV
- ➤ The 8th annual Myrtle Beach Jeep Jam brought the community together on the Grand Strand from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2—an event that showcased local spirit and celebration. WMBF News
- ➤ The Grand Strand's Optimist Fish Fry Fundraiser will take place Monday, Nov. 10 at Crabby Mike's Calabash Seafood in Surfside Beach (from 4 to 7 p.m.) and will raise funds for Coastal Carolina YMCA's afterschool programs with meals costing $15 for adults and $12 for children (free for veterans with Military ID). - ➤ On Monday, Twin Point Capital, Highgate and South Street Partners confirmed a joint venture to develop a surf resort at Broadway at the Beach on a 28-acre site at the corner of Highway 17 and 21st Avenue North—this project is planned to feature a Wavegarden Cove surf lagoon, premium surf cabins, a lazy river, beach, and pools while final delivery depends on securing financing, permits and agreements. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The 23rd annual Chilympics took place on Sunday, Nov. 2, drawing crowds with live music, vendors, and chili while raising funds for the Sea Beyond Foundation that supports local environmental cleanups. WPDE
- ➤ Hurricane season might be over as cooler air and higher wind shear keep storms from forming and forecast models show no tropical activity over the next two weeks. Though the season lasts until late November, experts warn the U.S. could avoid a hurricane landfall for the first time since 2015. WPDE
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ North Myrtle Beach officials said a beach renourishment project will commence in December and run for 59 days over December and January—equipment mobilization offshore began in early October and on land on November 1 with full staging completed by November 29. They said work will run 24 hours a day, seven days a week as weather permits. WPDE
