CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday at 8:30 p.m., a Grand Strand nonprofit said its new trailer was stolen from Guardian Wraps and Graphics in Myrtle Beach—security footage shows a red Dodge Charger parked nearby while a silver truck cut the locks and towed it away—and Car Club Director Carol Hadley offered a $1,200 reward for any tips.  WMBF News
  • DNA testing identified the body found drowned nearly nine years ago in an indoor pool at Ocean Creek Resort II as 22-year-old Malquan Tyreek Hawkins from New Hanover County—his biological family has now claimed him for a proper burial.  My Horry News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Saint James High School's musical theater department in Murrells Inlet presents The Addams Family musical, a spooky production featuring characters like Wednesday, Uncle Fester, and Morticia. Performances will be held Thursday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. — ticket purchases support the school program.  WPDE
  • A Halloween guide lists local events in Myrtle Beach and nearby towns such as Hometown Halloween at The Market Common from 5-7 p.m. and trick-or-treating at Broadway at the Beach from 4:30-6:30 p.m.—pediatrician Dr. Robin Hudson of Tidelands Health gives safety tips urging families to use glow-in-the-dark items, check treats carefully and plan a meeting spot if separated.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The town of Surfside Beach launched a life jacket loaner program Oct. 29 at a yellow stand under the Surfside Beach Pier at 11 Ocean Blvd—displaying adult, youth, and child sizes to boost beach safety. Officials from the Surfside Beach Fire Department and Safe Kids Pee Dee/Coastal organized the program with a Honda grant of $57,000 and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark its start.  My Horry News
  • On Oct. 30th, leaders held a groundbreaking ceremony in Conway for a new $35 million training facility for Horry County police, fire rescue crews and the Sheriff's Office; the facility will include a multi-use firefighter training area, a driver training track, classrooms and space for the coroner's office near the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.  WPDE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Conway Medical Center expanded its emergency services to Socastee when officials broke ground on Oct. 29 for a new 12,150-square-foot emergency department featuring eight beds on 6010 Highway 707. The facility attached to CMC Health Plaza South will create 250 jobs and is expected to open by December, offering quicker access to care for local residents.  My Horry News
  • Patty Younts will honor her late husband’s memory by carrying a purple flower at the Walk to End Alzheimer's today at Grand Park at The Market Common in Myrtle Beach — the opening ceremony starts at 10:45 a.m. and she joins others to raise funds for research and support.  WPDE
