Good morning, Myrtle Beach. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 19th of October.

CULTURE NEWS

  • The old Myrtle Square Mall site — once a racetrack, mall, and venue for car shows — now hosts Myrtle Beach JazzFest at 2501 N. Kings Highway, drawing nearly 10,000 visitors this weekend and running through Oct. 19. Organizers plan to charge admission next year after nine free years to support increased vendor and performer needs.  The Post and Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Over 600,000 South Carolinians who use the Affordable Care Act will pay higher health insurance costs because the federal shutdown ended extra help; families may see premiums rise by over $300 a month and up to 150,000 people could drop their plans. Experts warn the new rules may also hurt small businesses as open enrollment begins on Nov 1—local concerns grow over further economic impact.  WPDE
