ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Myrtle Beach neighbors are concerned after a sewer force main broke last Friday on 76th Avenue — vacuum pump trucks removed 11 loads of raw sewage while city tests met state standards even though some residents worry local wells could be contaminated.  WPDE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mindful Journey Academy — an outdoor school in Horry County — will host a Fall Festival fundraiser this weekend with a twist on the traditional Trunk or Treat where children will collect treats from tree trunks instead of car trunks. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Wondering Woods Farm — 6550 Daphane Drive.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Partners in Hope, Inc. planned to open a 78-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital on Highway 707 in Murrells Inlet, but Horry County's zoning board denied the special exception and the group has filed an appeal arguing that local rules violate the Americans with Disabilities Act—claiming the restrictions unfairly target mental health services. Local healthcare professionals support the proposal while some residents voiced fears during the September 8 hearing.  The Post and Courier
