- ➤ The Myrtle Beach Downtown Alliance announced the Zombie Walk fundraiser for Down syndrome will be held Oct. 25th with a pre-walk starting at 1 p.m.—where professional makeup artists transform participants—followed by a family-friendly spooky walk from Nance Plaza to Plyer Park and Fright Night activities until 8 p.m. WPDE

- ➤ At Kingston Joinery in Conway, 77-year-old Denley Caughman uses 200-year-old techniques to craft a Lincoln chair replica that took two years to complete. The working museum, part of the Horry County Historical Society, will host an open house on Oct. 18 from 10 a.m.—2 p.m. to feature the finished chair. The Post and Courier
- ➤ Theatre students at Coastal Carolina University plan a new take on Grease that empowers women — the production opens Friday, Oct. 17 and runs through Oct. 26 at Wheelwright Auditorium. WPDE
- ➤ The Don’t Tell Comedy show will take place Friday at 428 N. Main Street in Conway, where four to seven unknown comedians will perform. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.—tickets cost $27 for those 21 and older. WFXB
- ➤ Force Five Band is set to perform at The Javelina Texas Bar & Grill in Murrells Inlet on Oct. 18 from 8 p.m. until midnight, where they will play rock favorites including hits from Foreigner, AC/DC, and Def Leppard—this local band formed in January and plans to expand their shows to Charleston in the near future. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Myrtle Beach city leaders approved an agreement on Oct. 14 to offer an incentive voucher—worth up to $2 million—to cover licensing and permit fees for a new $230 million oceanfront Hilton resort on 23rd Avenue North. The development will improve public infrastructure and is expected to boost local taxes, with the city set to recoup its investment in about two and a half years. My Horry News
- ➤ South Carolina passed Rio's Law to allow an autism awareness license plate that shows the Just Bee logo and helps law enforcement identify when someone in a vehicle is autistic+ The DMV will issue these plates after receiving completed applications and medical forms, and first responder training will be updated+ My Horry News
- ➤ Horry County has seen a successful boost in hiring at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center since the age requirement dropped to 18 in 2022—allowing high school graduates to start a law enforcement career immediately.
