  • The Boardwalk Comic Con is set for this weekend at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center—featuring over 150 artists, vendors, guests and cosplayers along with TV, film and voice actors, a children's cosplay contest, vintage video game room and a virtual reality area.  WPDE

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Oct. 3, a natural gas leak near Coastal Grand Mall forced the evacuation of several businesses on Retail Court in Myrtle Beach—Dominion Energy fixed the leak by 11:30 a.m. and crews remain on site to complete final repairs while some restaurants are still closed.  The Post and Courier

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hook and Barrel in Myrtle Beach earned a No. 3 ranking on TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice list for casual dining, thanks to positive reviews praising its seafood and fresh catch specials. Some reviews mentioned brunch dishes from its adjoining bakery Croissants — a mix-up caused by AI-generated comments — and owner Heidi Vukov said she hopes to reach No. 1 soon.  My Horry News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Horry County Schools bought a $1M crisis alert system from CENTEGIX that lets staff quickly send a lockdown alert by wearing a panic button—cutting the response time from 90 seconds to 8—10 seconds. The system is being installed during non-instructional hours and will be fully operational by the start of 2026 after staff training.  The Post and Courier

  • The Myrtle Beach Police Department is honoring an officer who died in the line of duty five years ago—officials say the commemoration reflects his lasting legacy and commitment to community safety.  WMBF News
  • On Oct.2, Horry County’s planning commission recommended approval for a rezoning request that could eventually allow 99 new single-family homes on a 91-acre parcel off Highway 66 between Conway and Longs—designed with sustainable features like sidewalks, pocket parks, and a wetland buffer. The proposal now awaits three county council votes after a public hearing where residents can offer input and discuss potential impacts on local schools and traffic.  My Horry News
