- ➤ Myrtle Beach launched its first Halloween decorating contest on Oct 1—residents can upload photos of their spooky home decorations online until 5 p.m. Oct 20, and public voting will run from Oct 21 through Oct 27 to decide the winners who will earn a yard sign. The Post and Courier
- ➤ Since being hired in November 2024, Dane Hanna has led Shepherd’s Table in Conway by applying his Clemson degree and diverse work experience to manage food distribution and volunteer efforts for over 2,000 monthly patrons. He organizes meal services and food drives that help reduce local food insecurity—his leadership brings new purpose to the program. My Horry News

- ➤ A local Marsh Tacky horse named Fuego will join Conway’s Halloween celebrations this month, dressed as a cowardly lion from the Wizard of Oz—his owner invites visitors to meet him on the Town Green every Saturday in October from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Fuego is a South Carolina State Heritage Horse with a long history in the Carolinas. - ➤ Grand Strand Health broke ground on Oct. 2 at 4533 Wesley Road in Murrells Inlet for its new $17 million emergency department—its first standalone ER in Georgetown County featuring 10,000 square feet, 10 exam rooms, a laboratory, and advanced imaging services—that will operate 24-7 and be completed within 12 months. - ➤ Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach will host live music every Friday from 5—8 p.m. and Saturday from 2—5 p.m. throughout October.
