Good morning, Myrtle Beach. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 28th of September.

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Future Imelda is a potential tropical cyclone that may form soon and bring heavy rain, strong winds, and a risk of flooding to the Carolinas; models show that Humberto—its nearby weather system—might pull it east, lessening impacts along our coast. Residents should prepare and monitor updates as the storm track remains uncertain.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Horry County Emergency Management moved to Level 2 OPCON on Saturday to prepare for tropical weather and advised residents to secure outdoor items and clear storm drains—officials are coordinating with state and coastal agencies and monitoring updates closely.  WPDE
  • Residents gathered today to pick up free sandbags on Joe White Avenue as Tropical Storm Imelda approaches—city officials said the bags help block floodwater in low-lying areas. Many locals also checked their emergency kits and secured supplies while the stock lasts.  WPDE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Barbara Moyer—a cancer survivor who found hope in dragon boat racing at a Pawleys Island support group—now leads her team as head coach and captain after winning gold at recent races. She will race on Oct 2nd at 3 p.m. at Safe Harbor Reserve Marin and plans to travel to Puerto Rico next January.  WPDE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bikers at the Myrtle Beach Bike Week Fall Rally in Murrells Inlet started early on Sept 26 due to concerns over a possible tropical storm — local officials declared a civil emergency and are closely monitoring the weather.
