BUSINESS NEWS

  • Breeze Airways announced two new direct flight routes from Myrtle Beach — one to Fort Lauderdale available for booking Jan. 16 at $59 one-way — and one to Orlando beginning Feb. 5, offering budget-friendly travel options for local flyers.  WPDE
  • After years of planning — the first store at the former Inlet Square Mall opened on September 25th, marking the start of redevelopment in Myrtle Beach.  WMBF News
  • Parlor Doughnuts will open its new location at 1416 Old Highway 17 North in North Myrtle Beach. The bakery will offer layered doughnuts with flavors including maple bacon, honey glazed, cookies n-cream and turtle cheesecake, along with hot and iced coffees, teas and breakfast items, though an opening date has not yet been announced.  WFXB Fox TV
  • The first Trader Joe's in the area will open on Sept. 30 at SayeBrook Town Center near the intersection of SC Highway 544 and U.S. Highway 17 Bypass, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony planned for 8:55 a.m. Local fans will enjoy a DJ and special treats like South Carolina-themed reusable grocery bags for the first 500 customers—employees have prepared the store for weeks for this long-awaited opening.  The Post and Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Conway has transformed into the City of Halloween and will host a Halloween Kickoff Party on October 1 with a costume march, contest, and live music from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.—the Wicked Crawl for Cancer will fundraise through the month—and the 26th annual FALKTOBERFEST on October 11 and a Boo Bash on October 13 are planned.  WFXB Fox TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kaitlyn Biernacki, a teacher at Palmetto Academy of Learning and Success, shared daily affirmations on TikTok that quickly gained attention in the Grand Strand—her uplifting messages encouraged both students and viewers.  WMBF News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • As tropical storm Imelda's threat increases, residents are advised to check evacuation zones and pack hurricane kits with at least three days of water, food, and medications — steps essential for family safety during potential storms.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 23rd, 2025, the House approved the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act that provides $357.9M for Joint Base Charleston — $65.4M is set aside for a new nuclear power training simulator and the bill now moves to the Senate for review. Rep. Nancy Mace said the funding will strengthen national defense and improve training for service members in the Lowcountry.  WPDE
  • The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office has given more than $1.3 million in grants to 10 groups that help crime victims in Horry and Georgetown counties. Funding starts October 1 — the money comes from federal fines, settlements and other sources to keep essential services running.  WMBF News
  • Horry County Government said that on Monday, Sep.29, a lane shift will begin at Highway 66 east of Loris as crews work on Highway 9 to build a roundabout+ officials said a temporary signal will be installed and drivers need to use extra caution in the work zone.  WPDE
