- ➤ Residents of Myrtle Beach attended the final drop-in meeting to share ideas on enhancing the city's family-friendly and walkable layout — welcoming both long-term residents and tourists. City planner Cameron Armstrong said the feedback from previous meetings and surveys will be presented to the planning commission and used when the next update of the comprehensive plan focuses on land use. - ➤ Mobile Meals of the Grand Strand has delivered free, hot meals daily since 1976 — serving Myrtle Beach and nearby areas while welcoming volunteers into its family. WFXB Fox TV

- ➤ Trader Joe's will open its first Myrtle Beach area store on September 30 at 115 Sayebrook Parkway in Sayebrook Plaza (near S.C Highway 544 and U.S. 17 Bypass) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:55 a.m. and store hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily; local fans who previously traveled to other cities will now shop closer to home. - ➤ A new sawmill will open in Horry County to help support local loggers after the Georgetown mill closures—investing over $10 million and creating 18 new jobs at a facility outside Aynor that has been under construction for nearly a year. WFXB Fox TV

- ➤ NEEDTOBREATHE will add a show at the Alabama Theater in North Myrtle Beach on February 15 as part of their expanded Barely Elegant Acoustic Tour amid high demand—pre-sale tickets are now available with all tickets going on sale Friday at 10 a.m. and the band released a live studio video of its new song Momma Loves Me featuring The Red Clay Strays. - ➤ As Halloween nears, Fright Nights will take place at Plyer Park on N. Kings Highway starting the first week of October and running every Friday and Saturday from 5-8pm, and on Sundays from 1-4pm — offering live entertainment, wandering zombies and family fun. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Enrollment in Horry County Schools has dropped since school began a month ago—2,541 students left for charter, private, virtual schools or homeschooling. Officials said they will review the decrease and look at options as the Board of Education works to address the enrollment shortfall. WMBF News
- ➤ South Carolina lawmakers met with state universities to review campus security in response to shootings and swatting hoaxes. Representative Tim McGinnis said schools will boost security at large events and partner with SLED—local law enforcement—to protect students. WPDE
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Carolina’s recreational shellfish season for clams and oysters will begin one-half hour before sunrise on Oct. 1 and run until May 15, 2026, weather permitting. The season is open on public and state shellfish grounds with approved water quality and requires a Saltwater Recreational Fishing License—official maps help harvesters verify open areas. WPDE

- ➤ A raccoon near Highway 17 and Pavilion Drive in Little River tested positive for rabies after being submitted for testing on Sept. 11 and confirmed on Sept. 12—one person was exposed and referred for follow-up care as reported on Monday, Sept. 15. My Horry News
