COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Neighbors in Myrtle Beach felt relief after a dangerous eyesore on 9th Ave. was cleaned up by a father and son who cut the grass and trimmed the trees—residents had reported needles and drug activity before the home was boarded and painted with a cheerful sign.  WMBF News
  • The Springmaid Seal, a 70-year-old concrete statue, has returned to the mini golf course at the DoubleTree by Hilton Myrtle Beach after a 10-year hiatus—its staff repainted it in its original color during a resort contest. The statue—now called Rodney to honor a beloved maintenance worker who died in 2024—greets vacationers at Harbor Oaks.  The Post and Courier

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The North Myrtle Beach council approved the first reading of a business ordinance on Monday for Eagle’s Nest Village— a proposed 45,800-square-foot, four-building retail center that will add restaurants, shopping, and a gas station to a mostly residential area. Developers will also revise Henry Road West and upgrade Water Tower Road with a turning lane, drainage ditch, and street trees, with final approval set for next month.  WMBF News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The PGA TOUR’s ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic generated a record $15.8 million economic impact for the Grand Strand — providing $225,000 in donations to nine local charities during Monday's check presentation. Officials noted that more than half the spectators came from outside the region and the tournament will return next year at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club from May 7—10.  WPDE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Horry County Schools Superintendent Clifford Jones will host a series of Coffee and Conversations events for local community members during the 2025—26 school year. The meetings will start at Conway Middle on October 22nd at 8:45—9:45 AM and continue at several schools, letting residents share their ideas without needing to register.  My Horry News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mary Edna Fraser—an artist from Charleston—painted the Waccamaw River at Bucksport Marina on Sept. 12 to highlight worries that a planned road and bridge project for the S.C. Highway 22 Extension will harm the river and split historic Black communities, Bucksport and Burgess. She hopes her art will spur local residents to sign petitions to stop the project before it damages the area.  The Post and Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Myrtle Beach police and city departments completed their first Public Space Safety and Restoration Initiative, cleaning up abandoned homeless encampments amid community concerns over solicitation and drug activity — they monitored four areas and removed two dump trucks of trash with sanitation support.  WMBF News
  • The P-1 parking deck at Market Common reopened Friday, Sept. 12 after a $3-million renovation that improved the structure, lighting, paint, generator, and HVAC system. City officials said the work finished the project along with similar repairs on the P-2 deck.  WMBF News
  • Captain Jonathan Evans of the Myrtle Beach Fire Department said National Preparedness Month is observed to help families and the community plan for disasters. The department will host the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5K run at Market Common on September 21 — and hold the annual Guns and Hoses Charity Softball at Pelicans stadium on September 27.  WFXB Fox TV
  • The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs says homeowners unhappy with their HOA should first talk with their board and check their governing documents for a dispute process—if no resolution is reached, they can file a complaint online or via paper form. The agency will forward all submissions within two business days and review responses within 20 days before closing unresolved cases as unsatisfied.  WPDE
  • Horry County is moving ahead with plans to design a rural civic center between Conway and Aynor on a 500-acre site with a 200-stall barn, equestrian arena and fairgrounds — the design phase will cost over $700,000 with $15 million in engineering work as county officials work to secure additional funding from grants and state sources. County leaders expect the project, estimated at nearly $115 million, to generate significant regional benefits in the near future.  The Post and Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • A feral cat near Glenwood Drive and Fair Bluff Highway in Green Sea tested positive for rabies in Horry County, marking the second case this year. Two people and two dogs were exposed—dogs are now in quarantine and the people were referred to health care providers.  My Horry News
