GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Incumbents Amanda Butler, William Goldfinch, and Beth Helms are running for re-election for one of the three Conway City Council seats contested on November 4—new candidate Tonya Robinson is challenging in the race, with all voters casting their ballots at-large.  My Horry News
  • Carla Grabert-Lowenstein died last month from complications of dementia and her husband Henry Lowenstein now vows to keep searching for her uncle, missing World War II pilot Frank 'Bud' Hayes whose PBY Catalina crashed off the coast of Panay Island in October 1945. Government crews will resume recovery work in the spring using remote sensing to search for remains at the wreckage site—efforts that honor the rescue pilot’s service.  The Post and Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • East Carolina quarterback Katin Houser threw for 293 yards and two touchdowns as the Pirates defeated Coastal Carolina 38-0 on Saturday night. Coastal struggled with five turnovers and a strong defense that recorded five sacks and nine tackles for loss, and the Chanticleers will play South Alabama next week.  WPDE
  • Coastal Carolina University alum Melissa Jefferson Wooden set a new record in Tokyo at the World Athletics Championship when she won the 100m race on Sunday with a time just over 10 seconds—she remains undefeated this year and will run in the 200m race and on the USA women's 4X100-meter relay team later in Tokyo.  WPDE
