- ➤ A series of 9/11 events will be held along the Grand Strand—featuring a daily stair climb at Crabtree Memorial Gym from 6am to 7pm through Friday and from 8:30am to 4pm on Saturday, a stair climb at Yachtsman Resort on N. Ocean Boulevard starting at 8:46am on Thursday, a 28-repeat climb at Surfside Beach from 9:45am to 11:30am on Thursday, and a Remembrance Ceremony at Unity Memorial in Warbird Park beginning at 1pm on 9/11. - ➤ The first ever Hook & Ladle Chili Challenge took place Tuesday morning at Crooked Hammock in Barefoot Landing to honor local firefighters as six teams from Horry County Fire Rescue, North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue, and Myrtle Beach Fire Department competed. Rick Gibbins from Horry County Fire Rescue station 7 won the contest and his chili will be on the menu from Oct. 27 through Nov. 15 with a 15% discount for first responders on Oct. 28. WPDE

- ➤ On Tuesday, Rep. Nancy Mace demanded justice for Scott Spivey—shot two years ago on a rural Horry County road—by accusing Attorney General Alan Wilson of ignoring the Spivey family's calls and mishandling crucial evidence, which she called a cover-up. WPDE
- ➤ 20-year-old Callie Gordon was detained after a stabbing on Sunday night at a home on Nottingham Lakes Road—she attacked a victim who was installing a new lock on a shed, fled on foot, and now faces attempted murder and weapons charges while being held without bond. WFXB Fox TV

- ➤ At a work session on Sept. 8, the Horry County Board of Education discussed school choice and noted that 2,475 students have withdrawn from Horry County Schools so far this year, with many shifting to charter, private, or homeschool options—Superintendent Clifford Jones said the withdrawals disrupted budgeting and building plans and that the board will monitor the situation quarterly.
