- ➤ Little River residents will hold the inaugural Patriots Day on Sept. 13 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to honor the 9/11 heroes with a parade starting at Mineola and Watson avenues that leads to the festival grounds at Little River Landing — the event is organized by the Little River Chamber of Commerce. - ➤ A Loris man, Mont NeSmith, sued the Horry County Police Department on Aug. 29 alleging excessive force during his Aug. 2 arrest for domestic violence, saying officers used tear gas, rubber bullets and placed him in a chokehold—he also claimed that an officer helped a woman and four children escape during a two-hour standoff. NeSmith accuses the police of negligence and assault and seeks monetary damages for his injuries. The Post and Courier

- ➤ Justice Jhamere Bright, 24, was arrested on Aug. 26 in Conway for armed robbery after he robbed a victim of his jewelry on Oak Street while holding a gun—he faces charges including two counts of armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and unlawful sale or delivery of a pistol. - ➤ Officers arrested Jake Licoski, 55, on three counts of attempted murder and first-degree arson after a structure fire on Sunday near W. Flintlike Court in Myrtle Beach—he fled after laughing when a firefighter questioned him, prompting a chase that ended in a wreck. WPDE
