- ➤ Surfside Beach Fire Department plans to start a life vest loaner program using a grant from Safe Kids Pee Dee—providing 18 personal flotation devices on a board under the fishing pier to help prevent drownings. Surfside Beach Town Council will vote on the proposal soon. WMBF News
- ➤ Conway resident Sam Daniels began a kindness movement over five years ago after a note helped her during a difficult time; she now leaves handwritten notes and crafted fairy houses along the Riverwalk—spreading hope to people in town. The Post and Courier

- ➤ Authorities responded to an early morning News2‐alarm boat fire in Horry County on Saturday that left a yacht heavily damaged and attracted a large police presence—crews worked to secure the scene. WMBF News
- ➤ Crews responded to a multi-unit residential building fire at West Flintlake Court in Horry County at 12:20 a.m.—one person was injured and taken to the hospital while two others signed medical transport waivers as the cause is under investigation. WMBF News

- ➤ North Myrtle Beach councilwoman Nikki Fontana was arrested in Myrtle Beach on Aug 30 for DUI near the 500 block of 48th Avenue North and North Kings Highway—she was released on a personal recognizance bond with a court date set for Nov. 25. The Post and Courier
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews started drainage on the ocean outfall at 18th Avenue North with divers and a massive crane to move stormwater 1,200 feet offshore—city officials say the project will improve water quality and reduce inland flooding. The public parking lot on 18th Avenue North will reopen early November after repairs. WMBF News

- ➤ South Carolina has begun enforcing a law that bans holding a cellphone while driving today—drivers caught holding a device for the first 180 days will receive a warning before a $100 fine is applied.
