  • Holy Lamb Lutheran Church hosted its 9th annual barbecue fundraiser Saturday—serving hamburgers, brats, and hot dogs—to raise funds, socks, and shoes for Help 4 Kids. Organizers reported a strong turnout and hope to see even more support next year.  WPDE

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A man was hospitalized after a marine life incident on 14th Avenue North at Myrtle Beach when a possible shark bite caused large wounds during his family vacation—witness Robin Simmons, a respiratory therapist, helped stop the bleeding as officials cleared the water for 30 minutes.  WPDE

CRIME NEWS

  • Horry County police said an early morning shooting on Saturday left one person dead when officers found the victim in a vehicle on the 2400 block of Plantation Drive in the Longs area—authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.  WPDE
  • A Galivants Ferry man was arrested on Aug. 9 on charges of attempted murder, firearms possession and a violent crime after he allegedly punched a man who had offered to help him get gas before firing a sawed-off shotgun, shattering a vehicle window and scattering glass—he awaits trial at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $60,000 bond.  WPDE

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local artists and six young entrepreneurs are showcasing homemade crafts, food, and clothing at the Craft Expo this weekend in Myrtle Beach—half of the proceeds will support mental health programs through Crafters in Paradise. Today, the expo runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SC Department of Public Safety will join ICE’s 287(g) program to let officers check for suspected illegal entry and detain people on immigration warrants. Thirty officers from Highway Patrol and Transport Police will train for the new role—three from Transport Police for now although the mix may change.  The Post and Courier
