  • Becky Large of the Champion Autism Network announced today that the group is launching a new League of Champions program for ages 13+ and hosting a Redline Simcade event at 997 US 17 Business where drivers will race for $30 with help from autism trained instructors. Organizers are also preparing for the 6th annual Best of the Beach Balls Meatball Challenge on October 25th—seeking vendors and sponsors.  WFXB Fox TV
  • Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach is preparing for its 3rd Annual Gala event that will feature a full sit down dinner, open bar, live music, and silent and live auctions to support community members in need—local families and individuals facing crisis. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fiery four-vehicle crash on SC Highway 22 on Aug 20 took the lives of Earl Burnette, 49, and Flora Beltran-Gomez, 35, of Loris when a dump truck hit stopped traffic and sent a Chevrolet SUV over a bridge railing into the Waccamaw River—traffic remains slow as crews assess damage.  The Post and Courier

CRIME NEWS

  • On August 15, a fatal shooting at Rascals Bar and Grill in Conway left 41-year-old Lester Goldsmith dead and 26-year-old Irving Centeno-Gonzalez detained on ICE hold—two other men were charged with disorderly conduct.  WFXB Fox TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local officials in Horry said Hurricane Erin will stay offshore while their main concern is the Waccamaw River, which currently measures 12.3 feet—above the flood stage of 11 feet—making the saturated ground vulnerable to flooding if heavy rain continues.  The Post and Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Myrtle Beach International Airport will conduct a full-scale emergency response training on Sept. 4 to test and improve its procedures and coordination among airport employees, firefighters, paramedics, and other responders. The exercise will simulate an aircraft incident response — airport operations will remain unchanged while the exercise area is closed to the public.  WPDE
  • Local officials are addressing traffic delays along Hwy 90 near the new charter school—drivers reported ongoing congestion on one of Horry County's busiest roads.  WMBF News
