- ➤ North Myrtle Beach is adding new beach access at Windy Hill on 46th Avenue South as part of a project by the Adaptive Surf Project and city officials. Officials are installing 5 beach wheelchairs, 8 handicapped parking spots, a ramp, restrooms, and beach matting that is being rolled out daily (to help disabled beachgoers enjoy the sun, sand and sea). BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ City Council voted on selling three riverfront parcels and part of a fourth to chef ambassador Darren Smith and his wife Cyndi on August 4; they plan to build a new restaurant, event space, and up to 15 apartments next to their Bonfire Taqueria along the Conway Riverwalk. The project is expected to boost tax revenue and support the city's riverfront revitalization — a key development step — for the community. The Post and Courier

- ➤ Dezhon Overton, a 26-year-old Kansas man vacationing in Myrtle Beach, was struck by a car while crossing Kings Highway at Williams Street near 21st Avenue South on Aug. 3 and died at Grand Strand Medical Center—police later recovered the suspect vehicle using surveillance cameras and arrested the driver. - ➤ James Winebrake assumed his duties as Coastal Carolina University’s fourth president in July—he picked the campus because its mission, culture and growth matched his extensive background in higher education and he plans to strengthen ties with the Conway community. The Post and Courier
- ➤ Horry-Georgetown Technical College was awarded $1,361,820 over the next five years to fund its TRIO ELITE Scholars (TES) program, which supports first-generation, income-eligible and disabled students with tutoring and career workshops.
