ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A home sustained heavy damage after a fire at Welkin Court (near Conway) that damaged two cars, and while no injuries were reported, three people will be displaced.  WMBF News
  • The Myrtle Beach Fire Department responded to a hotel fire at Sea Gypsy at 304 N Ocean Blvd yesterday that blocked part of Ocean Blvd—no injuries were reported.  WPDE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Sunday, Socastee High School Marching Band held its sixth annual golf tournament fundraiser to support the band.  WMBF News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Conservation Fund bought more than 8,000 acres of forest in Carvers Bay on July 11 for $34.2 million to protect the land from future development. It will be sold to the S.C. Forestry Commission within four years to create a state forest that supports wildlife and clean water (the area features streams and swallow-tailed kites).  The Post and Courier

  • North Myrtle Beach Chiefs All-Stars, a team of boys aged 11 and 12, won the state championships and are headed to the Diamond Youth Baseball World Series—marking the first time they will represent the state in the national tournament. Head coach Daniel Brin said he is excited about the team’s strong pitching and 10-game winning streak as they prepare for the competition.  WPDE
