  • Members of the Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina packed hero boxes—assembled for deployed military service members—on Saturday.  WMBF News
  • On Saturday morning, protesters gathered along Highway 544 in Conway to demand justice and compassion for immigrants while highlighting social inequality—Coastal Carolina University sociology professor Todd Madigan joined to note that many detained by ICE had no criminal record. This protest marked a call for fair treatment that reflects ongoing community concerns.  WPDE

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two cats rescued from a recent structure fire in Horry County received oxygen from a fire rescue officer via pet masks — both are expected to fully recover.  WPDE

CRIME NEWS

  • Horry County police arrested 55-year-old Michael Craig on Thursday after they responded to a domestic dispute on Sagittarius Drive off Crystal Lake Drive near Highway 544—he allegedly threw his victim to the ground, retrieved a gun from his shed, and officers later found two long gun rifles in the living room.  WMBF News
  • Myrtle Beach Police are investigating a $2M check fraud scheme that may have affected over 800 people and arrested Devonte Dawkins (25) and Willie Perry (24) on July 11, and they have reached about 50 victims so far while urging anyone who mailed a check between July 6 and July 11 to contact them.  WMBF News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach Fire Departments received roughly 450 firefighter and EMS applications between June 20 and July 7 — the highest count since 2008, officials said. Agency leaders narrowed the pool to 300 and will hold a physical test in August before hiring new responders by October.  WMBF News
