The South Carolina chapter of Make-A-Wish granted a Horry County girl's wish to become a mermaid — fulfilling her dream with a magical transformation — and the event marked another cherished moment for the organization.

The annual Hammock Day festival was held Saturday at the Hammock Shops Village on Pawleys Island and drew both locals and visitors with free official Hammock Coast caps, food trucks, brews, kids' activities, and giveaways including original hammocks and Brookgreen Gardens tickets.

Mark Stevens from the Georgetown County Chamber said the event is now in its seventh year—this marks the second year of its new partnership with local shops.
