  • A Powerball ticket with PowerPlay was sold on Wednesday at Circle K located at 1001 62nd Ave N in Myrtle Beach for a drawing that offers a $100,000 prize — players have 180 days to claim their winnings. Over 8,000 players in South Carolina hold tickets with prizes ranging from $4 to $100,000 while Saturday’s jackpot will be $288 million.  WMBF News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Maryland man, Eric Lamont Lawson, 25, was arrested Tuesday for stealing a cell phone, keys, and a Jeep from a dealership along Highway 17 Bypass; police tracked him to a Taco Bell on South Kings Highway—he is now held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.  WPDE
  • Federal authorities filed a complaint against a Myrtle Beach office furniture supplier alleging it fraudulently underpaid customs duties—an enforcement move that marks an ongoing investigation.  WMBF News

CULTURE NEWS

  • McEisley’s Tavern—an Irish pub with dueling piano shows—will open in mid-August near the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk this summer and will serve Irish dishes such as bangers and mash while hosting dueling piano events from Wednesday through Saturday starting at 8 p.m. Tuesday events will feature live bands and Sunday games will be shown on large TVs.  The Post and Courier
  • Dr. Charles Evans has been named Music Director of the Carolina Master Chorale and is preparing the exciting lineup for the 43rd season that will begin in October. He brings nearly 30 years of experience from leading Long Bay Symphony + a strong connection to the Grand Strand.  WFXB Fox TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 16, the S.C. Court of Appeals upheld a $20.73 million verdict against Lack's Beach Service, Inc.—the company was found negligent when its lifeguards, tasked with both beach safety and rentals, failed to prevent a drowning at Sea Crest Resort in 2018. Following the ruling, Myrtle Beach City Council and Horry County Council banned dual-role lifeguarding to help prevent similar incidents.  The Post and Courier
  • Horry County Parks and Recreation took over the Bike and Run Park on July 1—closing it for scheduled maintenance—and is working with MBA2 volunteers to update trails and signage. Staff will work Tuesdays—Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout July to trim trails and ensure visitor safety.  The Post and Courier
