COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kyle Killinger ran through Warbird Park on Tuesday morning as part of his 300-mile run to raise awareness for veteran suicide prevention. He started his run in Mount Pleasant and will finish in Jacksonville — while raising funds for organizations that help veterans with PTSD, anxiety, depression and addiction.  WPDE
  • A stranger gifted a new puppy to a Myrtle Beach family after their dog died in an alligator attack—helping them begin to heal from their loss.  WMBF News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Horry County Fire Rescue responded at 9:41 a.m. to a gas leak at a commercial building on the 4000 block of River Oaks Drive that caused evacuations, located the leak, ventilated affected businesses, and reported no injuries — urging the public to avoid the area.  WPDE

  • Trader Joe's will open at least 30 new stores across 18 states soon, including a Myrtle Beach location at 115 SayeBrook Pkwy.—The chain listed upcoming addresses on its website and said it is eager to serve local communities.  WPDE

CRIME NEWS

  • A mother and her son from Green Sea pleaded guilty to murder for the 2023 beating death of Corey Adam Soles and were sentenced to 45 and 35 years in prison—sentences they must serve in full.  My Horry News
  • A man (Jason Beach, 25) and a woman (Courtney Frimml, 25) from Surfside Beach were arrested Monday for child abuse after a child suffered non-accidental head trauma and was flown to a hospital in Charleston on a ventilator; warrants state the case includes a May 29 text about shaken baby syndrome and that the child was left in unsafe care.  WPDE

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Coastal Centre in Conway began its $60 million transformation on July 14 with a sledgehammer ceremony by Rise Partners from Chattanooga — the upgrade will remove old store anchors and add new shops, restaurants, green space and about 100 permanent jobs — and phase one covering 140,000 square feet is set to finish by early summer 2026. Local leaders say the redevelopment will boost commerce and create lasting benefits for the community.  My Horry News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Coast RTA will take over a decades-old route connecting Lake City and The Grand Strand after PDTRA ended its van pull in May due to funding cuts. The move follows Horry County voters' approval of $300 million through Ride 4 to boost transit workforce efforts and raises the possibility of additional routes soon.  WFXB Fox TV
