ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On July 13, 16-year-old Chance Huggins of Green Sea and 17-year-old Carson Hatcher of Aynor-Nichols died when their car overturned and struck a house on SC Highway 19 near Myrtle Beach—officials are investigating the incident.  The Post and Courier
  • Two teenagers—a 16-year-old from Green Sea and a 17-year-old from Aynor—died early Sunday morning in Loris when their car overturned and crashed into a house; the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.  My Horry News
  • A two-vehicle crash on Highway 17 in the Atlantic Beach area sent 7 people to the hospital on Sunday at 10:30 p.m.—traffic was briefly blocked but has now cleared.  WMBF News
  • Three people were hurt in a watercraft crash near Bull Creek on Sunday at 7 p.m.—Horry County Fire Rescue took them to a nearby landing before sending them to a hospital—South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is investigating the incident.  WMBF News
  • Authorities in Pawleys Island recovered a body after they were called to reports of swimmers in distress on Sunday.  WMBF News
  • Critical injuries were reported in a two-vehicle crash near Conway Sunday night when Horry County Fire Rescue was dispatched at 9:30 p.m. to Highway 378 and Oak Grove Road—rescue crews used hydraulic tools to remove a trapped person.  WMBF News

CRIME NEWS

  • Former Horry County deputy coroner Christopher Dontell was sentenced on July 14 to 20 years in prison for criminal conspiracy—5 years for that charge and 15 years for being an accessory after the fact—in connection with the murder of Gregory Rice after his former lover Meagan Jackson shot him, and he admitted to helping dispose of Rice’s body.  The Post and Courier

  • Starting July 21, the South Carolina Department of Transportation will close lanes on Hwy 544 over the Intracoastal Waterway from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. until July 24—crews will inspect the bridge while drivers are asked to slow down near the work zone.  WPDE
