- ➤ Shortly before 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Myrtle Beach police arrested 43-year-old Michael Poole after he purposely ran over a pedestrian near 1705 S. Kings Highway — the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. WFXB Fox TV
- ➤ Doc Antle, the Myrtle Beach wildlife park operator known from Tiger King, was sentenced on July 8 to one year in prison after pleading guilty to breaking the Lacey Act and laundering over $500,000 (he must also pay a $55,000 fine, serve three years of supervised release, and forfeit three chimpanzees and over $197,000), according to federal authorities. - ➤ Ray Anthony Harden, 61, from Conway pleaded guilty on Wednesday to two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and received 15-year prison terms for each count—his sentences will run concurrently and he must register as a sex offender and wear an ankle monitor for life. WPDE

- ➤ State wildland firefighter Derrick Spivey was first on the scene of the Blackthorn Fire in the Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve on March 1, responding after his son saw a large plume of smoke nearby. He used his bulldozer to create a fire break — which slowed the spread of the 600-acre blaze and allowed air support to protect homes in Carolina Forest. WPDE

- ➤ The Myrtle Beach City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to change the minor curfew from midnight—6 am to 10 pm—6 am in downtown and coastal areas following a series of criminal incidents along Ocean Boulevard over the Fourth of July weekend. - ➤ Myrtle Beach City Council passed the first reading of a stricter juvenile curfew ordinance on Tuesday, July 8 that lowers the curfew for minors downtown from 10 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the measure will go to a second reading with an executive order expected within the next two weeks—city leaders say it is meant to curb juvenile violence.
