CRIME NEWS

  • A 17-year-old boy from Horry County was killed in a shooting over the Fourth of July weekend—police continue the investigation into the incident.  The Post and Courier
  • One person was critically injured in a drive-by shooting at a block party off Kingcrest Drive at about 2 a.m. Saturday; police took the victim to Loris Hospital and later could not locate the scene (investigation ongoing).  WPDE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • EmpowerLit is hosting the Wizard & Magic High Tea event on July 31 from 4 to 6 PM at Bluewater Resort in Myrtle Beach where guests will enjoy an immersive fantasy experience with floating candles, owl post, potion making and themed treats while supporting children’s literacy and self-worth.   • North Myrtle Beach Mayor Marilyn Hatley announced she will not seek re-election this November after 24 years in office. She said she plans to hand over leadership to a new generation—her tenure saw major growth and projects that helped shape the city.  My Horry News
  • Sen. Stephen Goldfinch announced his run for attorney general in Murrells Inlet on July 7 — drawing around 300 supporters including local officials as he stated his campaign would focus on protecting law and order and curbing government overreach. Goldfinch, a lifelong Horry County resident with state legislative experience, is the first notable candidate running after Attorney General Alan Wilson entered the governor’s race.  My Horry News
