- ➤ The Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center built 25 tiny homes in Myrtle Beach for veterans, and nearly all of the homes are now occupied. The center will hold a stand down event on Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—offering essential supplies to homeless veterans. WPDE
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Horry County woman Meagan Jackson was found guilty of murdering Gregory Rice—father of her children—after a five-day trial that ended June 17, and she was sentenced to life in prison. The Post and Courier
- ➤ A Horry County teen, Daniel Fox Fischer, 17, was arrested and charged with acts of terrorism for planning to join a foreign terrorist organization and threatening harm with a destructive device and a weapon of mass destruction—records show he sought explosive materials from April to August 2024—he is now held in the county juvenile detention center. - ➤ James W. Arehart, CEO of Providing Hope VA, was indicted and sentenced to 21 months in prison for a federal crime - he proposed a veteran housing facility on Highway 701 in Loris in 2023 to help homeless veterans in Horry County. WPDE
- ➤ On May 28, officers responded to a shooting on Kingcrest Drive and found that 19-year-old Mickey Dewayne Riggins of Tabor City and 25-year-old Tyshawun Herring of Green Sea committed armed robbery—stealing chains worth $9,500 from a victim lying in bed; Riggins was arrested by U.S. Marshals on Monday while Herring was taken into custody last Wednesday. - ➤ Conway and Horry County reached a truce over disputes about tax revenue and roads in Carolina Forest as county leaders delayed a June 17 vote on a business park so the city could postpone annexation until funding for Postal Way improvements was sorted—both sides agreed to work together on the issue. The Post and Courier
- ➤ On Monday, June 16, Conway officials received legal advice after learning that Horry County Council planned a nearly 1,000-acre multi-county business park in Carolina Forest that would convert property taxes into fees plus leave the city out of decision-making. Conway leaders say the plan may harm their efforts to annex properties in the Postal Way area. My Horry News
