COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A small black bear was found in a tree near (8th Ave S and Oak Street) on (Sunday morning) in Myrtle Beach. Animal Control will work with the Department of Natural Resources to relocate the bear and has set a safety perimeter to keep the public safe. WPDE
- ➤ On Saturday, protesters and counter-protesters spoke during ‘No Kings’ rallies in the Grand Strand—two men were jailed after a motel armed robbery in Florence. In other news, one person was hurt in a downtown Myrtle Beach shooting, the Horry County murder trial will begin its fourth day on Friday with a digital data expert set to testify, Coastal Carolina baseball opened the College World Series with a win, and an Horry County death row inmate was executed. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Crews responded at 5:16 p.m. on Sunday—after a car crashed on Highway 31 between International Drive and Water Tower Road—and extinguished a vehicle fire that blocked a lane with no injuries while South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the incident. WMBF News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Stephen Stanko, 57, was executed Friday, June 13th at Broad River Correctional Institution by lethal injection for the double murders of Laura Ling and Henry Turner — his final appeals and clemency requests were denied. WPDE
- ➤ Horry County Police found a 2-year-old child Sunday night near the 4900 block of Southgate Parkway — officials confirmed the toddler was safe while they continue to search for the missing guardian. WPDE
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Theatre of the Republic purchased a 100-year-old building at 1014 Fourth Ave. in Conway and plans to convert it into a small performing arts venue – keeping its brick walls and wooden ceiling intact for offbeat plays and art shows, with work in early stages. Tim McGhee said the new space will offer a site for productions that do not fit into the main 300-seat theater. The Post and Courier

- ➤ This weekend, the Conway Fire Department was recognized at the statewide South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association Conference — earning its fourth consecutive Fire Safe Community designation.
