  • On Thursday, Webb Cares honored nine Grand Strand veterans with handmade quilts at the Quilts of Valor celebration — the event was organized with help from a Grand Dunes veteran — and marked its third year recognizing their service.  WPDE

CRIME NEWS

  • Stephen Stanko, convicted for the murder of Turner in 2005, was executed by lethal injection at the Broad River Correctional Institution on June 13 — family members watched him through a barred window — and officials confirmed his death at 6:34 p.m.  My Horry News
  • An overnight shooting in downtown Myrtle Beach left one person hurt — police are investigating the incident.  WMBF News
  • Horry County Police are investigating the suspicious death of a child who died on June 11 in Carolina Forest when emergency responders arrived at 6 p.m. on Sago Palm Drive near Legends Drive and U.S. 501—EMS took the child to a local hospital where they later died.  My Horry News
  • Tyshawun Lyquan Herring, 25, was arrested in Horry County on Thursday and faces armed robbery charges after officers responded to a May 28 incident where a masked suspect entered a residence, threatened a victim, and robbed him of chains valued at $9,500—his bond is set at $20,000 and he remains in custody.  WPDE
  • Former Horry County deputy coroner Christopher Allen Dontell testified on June 12 at the Horry County Government and Justice Center that his girlfriend, Meagan Marie Jackson, killed her ex-husband Gregory Rice during a love triangle near Myrtle Beach—he later said he got rid of the body and his words may affect her ongoing murder trial.  My Horry News

  • A year after Sandy Schultz-Peters was run over on June 13th, 2024, her family is urging lawmakers to ban full-size trucks from Myrtle Beach during peak hours from May 1 to Oct 1—an effort to prevent future accidents.  The Post and Courier

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Kingfisher Inn high-rise was evacuated last year after concerns it might collapse, but a new lawsuit by the homeowners association says engineers later found the building safe. The suit also argues that repairs done in 2021 were faulty—leading to extra costs for owners while repair work has already begun.  The Post and Courier

  • On June 13, Coastal Carolina University hosted a watch party at Lib Jackson Student Union Theater where students, faculty and local fans cheered the Chanticleers as they played against Arizona in the College World Series in Omaha.
