- ➤ A 16-year-old from North Carolina has been taken into custody after a charter boat shooting in Little River on May 25 that injured 11 people — he faces eight counts of attempted murder and weapon possession offenses and will be sent to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia as the investigation continues. - ➤ Incident reports revealed two additional events related to the Ocean Boulevard shooting that occurred on April 26th — officers responded at 2:53 a.m. near 9th Avenue N and Ocean Boulevard after hearing multiple shots and again at 11:49 p.m. near 8th Avenue N where a shell casing was found — and arrests with search warrants executed on May 20th have deepened the investigation into firearm-related offenses. - ➤ On Monday, June 2, Horry County Schools approved a $1.14 billion budget that raises starting teacher pay to $52,015 and adds a 1.6% longevity increase along with cost-of-living adjustments while noting a reduction of $22.7 million from last year. - ➤ Myrtle Beach officials are urging community members to voice concerns on offshore drilling as BOEM reconsiders coastal oil exploration under the 11th National OCS Oil and Gas Leasing Program. The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is strongly opposed to oil exploration — citing risks to marine life, fish catches and tourism — and urges residents to submit comments by June 16. WPDE

- ➤ Horry County has offered Myrtle Beach $8.25 million for its share of Pelicans Ballpark—city officials had asked for $10.5 million as the park needs about $20 million in upgrades. Myrtle Beach City Council will decide on June 10 whether to accept the county’s offer—if they decline, the Chicago Cubs affiliate may leave after more than 25 years in the park. The Post and Courier
- ➤ On June 2, Conway leaders unanimously approved the $108.9M budget for the next fiscal year that will raise taxes (millage from 95.3 to 98.1) and provide pay raises, with some employees eligible for a $5,000 increase. The plan adds 23 new full-time positions and raises fees for water, sewer, waste and stormwater (resulting in extra property taxes of $11 to $45) and takes effect on July 1. My Horry News
