  • Avalon Community held an event Saturday to thank local firefighters who protected homes from recent fires—six food trucks, games, and a helicopter landing on the baseball field were part of the celebration, with all raffle proceeds donated to Horry County Fire Rescue.  WPDE

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Horry County Fire Rescue responded to a three-vehicle crash near Dick Scobee Road on Highway 501 Saturday evening—four people were taken to the hospital with injuries as the South Carolina Highway Patrol and Horry County Police Department investigated the scene while urging drivers to avoid the area.  WPDE
  • A three-vehicle crash on Highway 378 near Pitts Landing Road in Conway at 4:58 p.m. on Saturday left four people in the hospital and led to extrication operations — officials advised drivers to avoid the area.  WPDE

CRIME NEWS

  • Myrtle Beach police responded at 5:43 p.m. Saturday to a shooting on the 1400 block of South Ocean Boulevard and transported one person with a gunshot wound to a hospital—officials later advised residents to use alternate routes—as the investigation continues.  WPDE

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Carolina Muslims Association hosted the International Food and Fun Festival in Myrtle Beach, where participants from 15 countries sampled home-cooked dishes and viewed traditional crafts—an event focused on cultural exchange and supporting the Grand Strand Islamic Society's new center.  WPDE

ECONOMY NEWS

  • An early report from the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce and the Myrtle Beach Area Convention and Visitor Bureau said hotel occupancy during Memorial Day weekend was higher than in 2023 and 2024, with Friday reaching 81.2% and Saturday reaching 92.8% on the Grand Strand—figures that show strong summer tourism.  WPDE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Severe storms Friday night damaged property and blocked roads in Horry County—trees and street signs fell near homes in Walden and Heritage Preserves and on roads including Middle Ridge Avenue, 82nd Parkway, and Tilly Swamp Road. Emergency crews and police responded to clear debris and repair downed utility lines.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Horry County Fire Rescue will boost fireboat patrols from Little River Station 2 this weekend as part of its summer boat program—crews will offer fire suppression, emergency medical, and rescue services while teaching water safety on our local waterways; the program will run through Labor Day.  WMBF News
  • City Manager Fox Simons asked Horry County on May 30 to raise its offer from $6 million (covering MLB-required upgrades) to $10.5 million (covering extra repairs) for its share of Pelicans Ballpark; city leaders will vote on the deal on June 10 while county officials meet on June 3 to consider the request.  The Post and Courier
  • Horry County Fire Rescue announced increased use of its fireboat for fire suppression, emergency medical care, and rescue services while also offering water safety education. The summer boat program begins this weekend—based at Station 2 in Little River and runs through Labor Day.  WPDE
