  • Cookie Goings is tonight's Carolina Champion Award recipient for converting her late mother's home into Nana's Hope House for homeless high school students, having spent nearly $27,000 to renovate the property—continuing her lifelong mission to support at-risk teens in Myrtle Beach.  WPDE

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Southwest Airlines flight from Baltimore to Tampa was diverted to Myrtle Beach on Thursday after a customer's battery charger overheated and caused cabin smoke—officials found no injuries and inspected the aircraft while the fire/rescue team was on standby before a replacement aircraft carried passengers to Tampa.  WMBF News

  • Patti Hilton introduced new menu items at Mad Gator Grill & Sports Bar in Barefoot Landing at 4706 Hwy 17 S in North Myrtle Beach. The additions include shrimp skewers, dips and onion rings that are now on the menu.  WFXB Fox TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Horry County Police said a 19-year-old suspect was arrested in Illinois on May 25 for a shooting on a charter boat in the Little River area that left 10 people with gunshot wounds and one with another injury—he will be extradited to face charges including attempted murder.  WPDE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After strong storms hit Horry County on Friday, residents submitted photos of damage at the CCMF site (downed tents and fences) and along Ocean Boulevard (fallen trees and a business sign), showing widespread impact.  WMBF News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tomorrow marks the start of hurricane season along the Carolina coast, and the South Carolina State Guard advises residents to assemble hurricane kits with bottled water, non-perishable food+ flashlights, batteries, and a first aid kit. They also urge families to prepare for emergencies and to know their evacuation zones+ in case an evacuation is needed.  WPDE

  • Coastal Carolina baseball took advantage of its home field in the NCAA Tournament's Conway Regional when it played Fairfield on Friday at 6:06 p.m. Today, the double-elimination tournament will continue + game three is set for 12:06 p.m. and game four for 6:06 p.m. as Coastal Carolina, Florida, ECU, and Fairfield compete.  WMBF News
