  • The Conway Dog Park is temporarily closed for renovations to upgrade its entryway and other areas for a more welcoming space near Highway 501 and 701 by Lake Busbee (the project duration is unknown).  WFXB Fox TV
  • Coastal Carolina University's Campus Salvage sale raised over $8K and diverted more than 31K pounds of material from disposal — a record high for the event. Officials said the sale supported campus sustainability efforts.  WPDE
  • The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach (HSNMB) joins the Foster 50 campaign to raise awareness for pet fostering and reduce shelter stays. The program offers flexible summer fostering options to match more pets with permanent homes.  WPDE
  • Thomas (Buddy) Styers, a retired Air Force colonel from Myrtle Beach, recalled his long career when he saw his banner (a heartfelt tribute) honoring service members displayed along Harrelson Boulevard near the airport; over 100 banners celebrate veterans in town.  WPDE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The S.C. Department of Environmental Services is urging local dam owners and residents to review emergency plans ahead of National Dam Safety Awareness Day on May 31. Officials advise all to take necessary steps to ensure dam safety and community preparedness.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Horry County Council approved $10 million for a new YMCA aquatic center in Carolina Forest. The planned facility will feature a 50-meter pool and offer swim lessons and water rescue training for families + first responders, with the county covering 40 percent as the YMCA works to raise the remaining funds.  WMBF News

  • Coastal Carolina University will open its football season on Sept. 5 with an away game against West Virginia in Morgantown at noon, and will host its first home game on Sept. 12 at 7:30pm against Fordham. Additional games are scheduled later in the season.  WFXB Fox TV
