  • Fans will join a beach clean-up on June 8 from 8 to 10 a.m.—marking World Oceans Day and the last day of the Carolina Country Music Fest—in Myrtle Beach. The event starts at 301 12th Ave North and is organized with partners including Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful, SkyWheel Myrtle Beach and Bummz Beach Café.  WMBF News
  • Waccamaw Youth Center in Conway opened a new multipurpose facility on Tuesday that will offer dining, recreation and workshops to teach life and career skills and serve as a transitional home for teen boys — the space was furnished with funds raised by Leadership Conway.  WPDE

  • Horry County Police said 10 people were shot and one person was hurt after an argument on a boat in Little River—while a North Myrtle Beach officer accidentally shot himself during the response.  WMBF News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic set record attendance at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club, raised $225K for nine local charities, and boosted local business revenue with help from over 1,200 volunteers. Ryan Fox won the tournament — community leaders and celebrities showed their support at the event.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Myrtle Beach city leaders approved the initial reading of ordinances authorizing Fox Simons to negotiate Horry County’s $6M offer to end the county’s 30% ownership of Pelicans Ballpark on Robert Grissom Parkway and 21st Avenue North — Mayor Brenda Bethune said the city must fill the funding gap for future repairs before the May 31 MLB deadline.  My Horry News

  • Myrtle Beach local Jack Thompson said his lifelong dream was fulfilled when MLB reinstated Shoeless Joe Jackson—making him eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2028.
