  • Hundreds gathered at Market Common on May 24th for the annual Myrtle Beach Military Appreciation Days Parade and Community Picnic to honor military service. The event brought residents together to remember the sacrifices made by service members.  WMBF News
  • Red poppies now fill Warbird Park in Myrtle Beach today — placed by Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina ahead of Memorial Day to honor National Poppy Day and the sacrifice of World War I veterans.  WPDE

CRIME NEWS

  • Four people were detained after officers began a police pursuit around 1:10 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 17 Bypass and Robert Grissom Parkway in Horry County — suspected drugs were recovered from the fleeing vehicle and the investigation continues.  WPDE
  • Police are asking for public help to identify an armed suspect in a stolen vehicle chased starting at 8:15 a.m. on South Ocean Boulevard and ending with a crash at 8:34 a.m. on 67th Avenue North—charges include attempted murder, firearm offenses, kidnapping and possession charges for two individuals who remain in custody.  WPDE

CULTURE NEWS

  • A nonprofit group led by Darrell Smith is using the Annual Memorial Day Black Pearl Cultural Heritage and Bike Festival in Atlantic Beach to raise awareness about domestic violence—human trafficking—bullying. Thousands of bikers and vendors have gathered for the event that will run until Monday and offer inner-city youth a chance to learn film projects.  WPDE
  • Atlantic Beach hosted the annual Black Pearl Cultural Heritage and Bike Festival on Friday, May 23rd, marking its 45th year with parties, live music and meet-and-greets along the town's main street this Memorial Day weekend. The event will continue this weekend and draws thousands of bikers from across the east coast—visitors eager to enjoy the music, food and shared heritage in a relaxed atmosphere.  My Horry News
