COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Myrtle Beach and nearby communities will host Bikefest and Memorial Day events this weekend—activities include a Military Appreciation Parade on Saturday, May 24 at 10 a.m., a Bikefest in Atlantic Beach through May 26, and remembrances on Monday, May 26. City officials and the Myrtle Beach Police are enforcing traffic measures, including a golf cart ban on Ocean Boulevard and road closures from May 23 to 26, to ensure safety during the busy holiday weekend.  My Horry News
  • North Myrtle Beach and Adaptive Surf Project unveiled a new wheelchair-accessible beach entry on May 21 with a ramp, beach mat, and multiple wheelchairs for visitors with mobility challenges — city staff built most of the site while the nonprofit donated key equipment, and the access will be available from Memorial Day to Labor Day.  The Post and Courier

CRIME NEWS

  • Michael Dean, a 70-year-old Myrtle Beach man, was killed when he shot into a Conway home on Sunmeadow Drive in Rivertown Row and the homeowner returned fire at 9:30 p.m. on May 21—police said the domestic incident is under investigation.  The Post and Courier
  • Horry County and Myrtle Beach police pursued an armed suspect in a stolen vehicle driving at excessive speeds on Thursday morning near Myrtle Beach+ the chase ended when the suspect crashed near 67th Avenue North and North US Highway 17 and four people were detained with no injuries reported.  WPDE
  • A police chase began near The Market Common when officers tried to pull over a driver and ended in a two-car crash near Highway 17 Bypass and 67th Avenue North — sections of these roads were closed and reports indicate that two patients were involved, although it remains unclear if they were taken to the hospital.  WMBF News

  • Gallery 320 opened its doors on Thursday as the new home for the Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild and now showcases works from local woodworkers, metalworkers, weavers, photographers and painters—located in the Arts and Innovation District at 320 Broadway Street.  WPDE

  • Myrtle Beach City Council will vote next week on a plan for the city to take full ownership of Pelicans Stadium after a failed deal with Horry County. City leaders are weighing three options — accepting county demands, taking over the ballpark for $6 million, or seeking another partner — to meet MLB upgrade requirements.  The Post and Courier
