- ➤ Britney Hauser from Kind Keeper Animal Rescue appeared at the studio with Armin to highlight the shelter's need for donations and support for adoptable animals — the organization offers wishlists on Chewy, Amazon, and Walmart for contributions. - ➤ A Myrtle Beach nonprofit is training groups of puppies to become veteran service dogs — the special pups are being groomed to support former servicemen and women. The program plans to expand its training sessions soon to benefit more veterans in the community. WMBF News

- ➤ An abandoned home on Weldon Lane in Conway was destroyed by a fire on Wednesday morning at 6:33 a.m.—no injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation with help from the Conway Fire Department and Horry County Police. WPDE

- ➤ Palm 33 is a new steak and seafood restaurant that opened this month along U.S. Highway 17 Business in Murrells Inlet—its sports bar has items from NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt and decor inspired by a beachy Key West style. The restaurant serves seafood, steaks and more, is open Wednesday to Sunday from 4 to 10 p.m. and plans to add a lunch menu when more staff are hired. The Post and Courier

- ➤ In Myrtle Beach a shooting on April 26 injured 11 and killed one while activist John Barnett demanded accountability—he urged the city to provide counseling as investigators from MBPD and SLED continue their work. WPDE

- ➤ The Beach Boys will perform at the Carolina County Music Fest — with special guest John Stamos on the Coors Light Main Stage — from June 5 to 8. WPDE
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The April 2025 Beazer Homes Student of the Month is 15-year-old William —Cliff— Burch, an eighth grader at Ten Oaks Middle School in Carolina Forest who was recognized for his helpful attitude and strong academics. He won first place in a regional history competition with his documentary on the 18th Amendment, and he also plays football while coaching a 9U flag football team. My Horry News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local forestry officials said the Carolina Forest wildfire was 100% contained on May 21 after burning over 2,000 acres in 82 days. Fire crews will continue to patrol the area until the blaze is declared controlled — the final step in fully ending the fire. The Post and Courier
- ➤ State officials from the South Carolina Forestry Commission reported the Covington Drive wildfire burned 2,059 acres in Carolina Forest and became 100% contained yesterday—firefighters will continue to monitor the site until it is declared controlled. WPDE

- ➤ Coast RTA announced that a free entertainment shuttle service will return to Grand Strand starting Tuesday, May 27 and run daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. until Labor Day; the service — which eases traffic this summer — connects riders from Broadway at the Beach to Barefoot Landing and — by linking with the full transit network — helps travel across Horry and Georgetown Counties.
