  • Starting May 28, the Myrtle Beach Downtown Alliance will launch weekly fireworks displays from the 2nd Avenue Pier at 9 p.m. until August 28, weather permitting+ The event will light up the Atlantic sky and mark a season of summer celebrations.  WPDE

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle blocked lanes on Highway 17 Bypass and Deerfield Links Drive Friday morning, and one person was taken to the hospital for injuries — the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.  WPDE
  • A vehicle overturned on Nichols Highway — Winburn Road in Galivants Ferry Friday morning, blocking a lane as Horry County Fire Rescue responded and the South Carolina Highway Patrol began investigating, and no one was injured.  WPDE

CRIME NEWS

  • Thirteen-year-old Zavian Hairston recounted surviving the Ocean Boulevard shooting on April 26 in Myrtle Beach when a teenager fired into a crowd and police returned fire—killing 18-year-old Jerrius Davis—and he now urges an end to gun violence as he deals with a bullet still lodged in his arm.  WPDE

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 70th annual Sun Fun Festival is a three-day family event in downtown Myrtle Beach at Plyler Park that started Friday and will run through Sunday. Today the festival offers free activities like live music, oceanfront games, kids' crafts and a U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute jump at 4 p.m.—with the Omar Shriners Parade scheduled to start at 10 a.m.  WPDE
