  • Adaptive Surf Project in Pawleys Island donated 100-feet beach matting and specialized wheelchairs to enhance beach access for individuals with mobility challenges (including new designated handicap parking and an improved path from the parking area on Pearce Street to the shore).  WFXB Fox TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Coastal Carolina University held an indoor commencement for its largest graduating class of 2,060 at the HTC Center in Conway on May 2026. Hundreds of students in caps and gowns celebrated while Sunny Gupta and student body president Lyndsey Gilbert delivered speeches.  WPDE
  • A freshman was named Recycling Student of the Year by Horry County Solid Waste Authority today for outstanding recycling efforts. The award celebrates the student's commitment to promoting sustainable practices in the community.  WPDE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sea turtle nesting season has begun in the Lowcountry with two nests already reported. Local environmental officials plan to monitor the sites to protect the species during this critical time.  WPDE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Golfers started competing on Thursday as the ONEflight MB Classic kicked off in Myrtle Beach. The tournament will continue with more rounds to draw local players and visitors to the course.  WPDE
  • Coastal Carolina University baseball will honor its 2016 national championship team during a series this Saturday at its home field, celebrating one of the program's greatest seasons.  WPDE
  • Outdoor pickleball courts are under construction at Possum Trot in North Myrtle Beach, announced by Darry Del Corro and Ken Chaney. Free intro clinics will be held on Tuesday, May 12 and Tuesday, June 16 at 3:00 p.m. at the J. Bryan Floyd Center.  WFXB Fox TV
