  • A teen hurt in a downtown Myrtle Beach officer-involved shooting held a news conference yesterday—he shared his account of the incident.  WMBF News
  • Horry County Police Chief Kris Leonhardt said Wednesday morning that seven mislabeled dashcam videos have been turned over to SLED—leading to a review for possible misconduct—and three officers may face disciplinary actions as part of the ongoing Internal Affairs investigation into the Camp Swamp Road shooting in September 2023.  WPDE
  • Serenity Malloy, a 15-year-old shot near a pizza place on Ocean Blvd during spring break in Myrtle Beach, said she will not return as her mother seeks answers after a five-day hospital stay while the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigates the officer-involved shooting that occurred on April 26—she said she heard officers fire first.  WPDE

  • Governor Henry McMaster signed the Educator Assistance Act during Teacher Appreciation Week, which requires districts to include a projected minimum salary in annual teacher contracts starting with the 2025-26 school year & streamlines certification with automatic renewal for current teachers and lifetime status for retirees.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina residents were required to have REAL ID on their licenses as of May 7—licenses now either show a gold star for travel, entry to federal buildings, and military bases or are marked Not for Federal Identification and cannot be used for those purposes.  WPDE

  • Today, actor Kevin Costner arrived by helicopter at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club for the OneFlight Myrtle Beach Classic Pro-Am tournament and said his first thoughts of Myrtle Beach were 'like hitting the beach in a war'—noting that everyone is friendly. Other stars like Bill Murray, Vanna White and Kurt Russell also joined the event, and play will run through Sunday with nightly concerts.  WPDE
  • On May 7, 2025, celebrities including Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell, Rob Riggle and Bill Murray played a pro-am round at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club ahead of the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic. The tournament kicks off today and will see golfers competing through Sunday.  My Horry News
