GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 1, Loris Fire Chief Jerry Hardee and firefighter Robert Rudelitch told the city council they are considering hiring professional firefighters to cut incident response times, with one option costing about $45,000 per year for a part-time worker and another using a SAFER grant for full-time coverage costing between $250,000 and $500,000 per year. The city will decide on staffing levels and pay while continuing to rely on volunteers—who currently earn $13.75 per call—with concerns that full-time coverage may lead to higher taxes after the grant ends.  My Horry News
